HL Deb 08 August 1914 vol 17 c474

[SECOND READING.]

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD WIMBORNE

My Lords, the amount of the advances that may be made by the Land Commission for the building of labourers' cottages in Ireland is at present limited to £5,250,000. Forty thousand cottages have been built, and 6,000 more cottages are required. It is proposed by this Bill to increase the £5,250,000 by another £1,000,000 to enable this work to be carried out. The cottages are badly needed in some districts in Ireland, and the good results which have followed the building of the 40,000 that now exist are well known to your Lordships. I ask you to give this Bill a Second Reading and allow me to carry it through its other stages to-day.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2ª.—(Lord Wimborne.)

On Question, Bill read 2ª.

Committee negatived: Then (Standing Order No. XXXIX having been suspended) Bill read 3ª, and passed.
