Clause 1:

Out-relief for children other than orphans and deserted children. 52 & 53 Vict. c. 56.

1. Where the rights and powers of a parent of any child are vested in the guardians of any poor law union in Ireland under section one of the Poor Law Act, 1889, as amended by the Poor Law Act, 1899, the guardians may, if they think fit, provide for the relief of that child out of a workhouse under section one of the Pauper Children (Ireland) Act, 1898, notwithstanding that the child is not an orphan or deserted child; and the provisions of that section, amended as aforesaid, shall apply accordingly in like manner as they apply in the case of an orphan or a deserted child.

There are two drafting Amendments to this clause. The first is, after the words "deserted child" where they first appear, to add "within the meaning of that section as extended by the Pauper Children (Ireland) Act, 1902;" and the second to delete the words "amended as aforesaid."
