HL Deb 17 February 1913 vol 13 c1363

[SECOND READING.]

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, this Bill relates to the procedure in the Sheriff Courts in Scotland. There was an Act in 1907 which laid down the procedure for the various Sheriff Courts, and the Bill provides for certain amendments to that Act which are considered desirable. I may tell your Lordships that this Bill has been thoroughly examined and discussed by those best able to judge, and Amendments have been made in it by them.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH

My Lords, I would like to confirm what the noble and learned Viscount on the Woolsack has said. I know that this Bill has been very carefully scrutinised by those watching this procedure. It is almost a matter of arrangement, and the Bill is supported with unanimity by those concerned.

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House To-morrow.
