HL Deb 28 April 1913 vol 14 c327

LORD DESBOROUGH had the following Notice on the Paper—

To move for a Return showing annually, for each year since 1903 inclusive in a summarised form, the imported quantities of (1) wheat, wheat meal, and flour; (2) meat, including animals for food; and (3) sugar retained for home consumption; and also the countries from which these supplies of food were derived (in continuation of the Return presented to the House of Commons on 26th May, 1903).

The noble Lord said: My Lords, I understand from the noble Earl who represents the Board of Trade in your Lordships' House that his Department are ready to grant this Return, but at their request and in order to make the Return harmonious I ask leave to substitute the year 1904 for the year 1903.

Moved, That there be laid before the House a Return showing annually, for each year since 1904 inclusive in a summarised form, the imported quantities of (1) wheat, wheat meal, and flour; (2) meat, including animals for food; and (3) sugar retained for home consumption; and also the countries from which these supplies of food were derived (in continuation of the Return presented to the House of Commons on 26th May, 1903).—(Lord Desborough.)

THE EARL OF GRANARD

My Lords, as I have intimated to the noble Lord by letter, the Board of Trade will be glad to grant this Return provided that the year 1904 is inserted in the place of the year 1903. For reasons which I explained in my letter the Return will be more valuable in that form than in the form in which it stands on the Paper.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
