HL Deb 20 July 1910 vol 6 cc372-3

Order of the Day for the Third Reading read.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (EARL BEAUCHAMP)

My Lords, in moving that this Bill be read a third time, it would perhaps save trouble if I explain at once that the Amendments I have put down are purely drafting Amendments. Although His Majesty's Government still disapprove of the Amendment which was inserted on the motion of Lord Newton, they think that the Bill ought to go to another place in a form which will not be disapproved of by the Government draftsman. Therefore I have put these Amendments on the Paper and I think on the most cursory examination your Lordships will be satisfied that they are purely verbal. I beg to move that the Bill be now read a third time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a.—(Earl Beauchamp.)

On Question, Bill read 3a.

Amendments moved—

Clause 4, page 2, line 3, after ("profession") insert ("or") and after ("occupation") leave out ("or")

Clause 12, page 4, lines 31 to 33, leave out ("Provided that no person shall be subject to any" such penalty for refusing to state his religious "profession")

Clause 12 page 5, line 8, after ("pounds") insert ("Provided that no person shall be subject to any "such penalty for refusing to state his religious "profession."—(Earl Beauchamp.)

On Question, Amendments agreed to.

Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
