HL Deb 23 March 1899 vol 69 c95

Debate resumed on Question— That the Bill be now read a second time.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (The Earl of HALSBURY)

My Lords, I have looked into this Bill, and have had a consultation with the noble Lord who is in charge of it (Lord Heneage), and I will withdraw any objection to the Second Reading; but when the Bill reaches the Committee stage I shall ask the noble Lord why he has not followed the precedent set up in the Yorkshire Bill, and why he has introduced two sections which will somewhat conflict with one another.

LORD HENEAGE

My Lords, I shall be glad to avail myself of any assistance which the noble and learned Lord on the Woolsack can give me when the Bill is in Committee. I may say, however, that I presented the Bill as it was handed to me.

Motion agreed to.

Bill read the second time and committed to a Committee of the Whole House on Monday the 1st of May next.
