HL Deb 30 July 1897 vol 51 c1576
THE EARL or KIMBERLEY

said he wished to make a brief personal explanation to their Lordships. Reference had been made to a statement of his some little time ago in that House that the diocesan association of the county of Norfolk, where he resided, did not admit schools which were not Church Schools, and the Duke of Devonshire had pointed out to him that in the scheme which had been submitted to his Department there was one British school included in the association and some parochial schools of a mixed character. He regretted that he had been misled and had made a statement which was not strictly accurate, and he was extremely glad to find that the association which had been formed in Norfolk was not exclusively confined to Church Schools.
