HL Deb 10 May 1895 vol 33 cc902-3
THE LORD CHANCELLOR (Lord HERSCHELL),

in moving the Second Reading of this Bill, said: The object of this Bill is simple. Under the Naturalisation Act the children of naturalised persons residing with them in this country have their parents' nationality; but where naturalised persons are in the service of the Crown their children, though residing with them, do not, under the Naturalisation Act, have their parents' nationality. Their parents not residing in the United Kindom, the case is not brought within the words of the Act. This Bill proposes that where naturalised persons abroad are living there in the service of the Crown their children should be British subjects, as the parents are.

Bill read 2a.
