HL Deb 10 July 1893 vol 14 c1129

House in Committee (according to Order).

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL AND SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (The Earl of KIMBERLEY)

My Lords, I have an Amendment which I propose to introduce to bring the sites required by the School Board for London for schools under the general provisions of the law laid down by the Metropolitan Building Act and the Metropolis Management Act. The reason for this Amendment is that, in certain cases, it appears those who have obtained Parliamentary authority for the erection of these schools have contended that they are thereby empowered to disregard the rules as to the lines of streets as provided by the Metropolitan Building Act. This clause will prevent that being done in future.

Amendment moved, In page 4, after line 17, to insert the following clause:— (14.) Nothing contained in this Act or in the order set out in the schedule to this Act, or on the plans therein mentioned, shall be deemed to exempt any of the lands referred to in the said order, or the School Board in respect thereof, from any of the provisions of the Metropolis Management Act, 1855, the Metropolitan Building Act, 1855, and any Acts amending or extending the same."—(The Lord President.)

Amendment agreed to.

Standing Committee negatived; the Report of Amendment to be received To-morrow.
