HL Deb 21 April 1893 vol 11 cc892-3

Order of the Day for the Second Reading, read.

My Lords, this Bill merely consolidates existing enactments. It reproduces the Regimental Debts Act of 1863 in a somewhat similar form, and with modifications rendered necessary by the Act of 1881. The only points to which it is necessary to call attention are with regard to the payment of the cost of soldiers' funerals out of the public funds; extending the benefits in Clause 10 to the wives and children of soldiers dying six mouths after their discharge; and in Clause 26 there is an alteration in the Act of Parliament with regard to India. I beg leave to move that the Bill be read a second time.

Moved, "That the Bill be now read 2a." —(The Lord Sandhurst.)

Motion agreed to; Bill read 2a accordingly, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House on Monday next.
