HL Deb 01 August 1890 vol 347 c1524

Order of the Day for the Second Beading, read.

A noble LORD: I have not given any explanation of this Bill, to which I did not think there was the smallest objection. It is a Bill with a very desirable object, and I think it would be as well that it should go to Standing Committee.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

I think it is a very desirable measure; but it should be compared with the Agricultural Holdings Act, and carefully brought into line with it.

THE EARL OF KIMBEBLEY

Quite so. The object will, I think, be regarded as desirable.

LORD HERSCHELL

I have looked into the Bill, and I quite agree with the object of it. With regard to the suggestion of the noble Marquess, my attention was called to the necessity of that being done, and I think, therefore, it is very desirable that the Bill should be sent to a Committee.

LORD HARLECH

Then I will move that it be sent to the General Committee.

Bill read 2a (according to order), and committed to the Standing Committee for General Bills.
