Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee read.

THE LORD STEWARD OF THE HOUSEHOLD (The Earl of MOUNT-EDGCUMBE)

, in moving that the House go into Committee on this Bill, explained that the object of the measure was to define the respective rights of the parishioners of the old church of St. Mary, Truro, and of the Dean and Chapter of the new cathedral. It also provided for the formation of a Chapter Endowment Fund, made the Bishop the Dean till such time as a Dean was appointed, and constituted the Vicar of St. Mary's the Sub-Dean. It further provided for the transfer of the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, in the County of Cornwall, to the new Cathedral Body. The Bill gave effect to arrangements which had been most carefully thought out and were concurred in by all the parties concerned.
