HL Deb 03 March 1887 vol 311 cc1023-4
THE MARQUESS OF ORMONDE

rose to ask the noble Lord behind him (Lord Brabourne), Whether he intends to bring on the Motion which stands in his name on the Paper for to-morrow (Friday) evening, relating to the appointment of Sir Thomas Esmonde as High. Sheriff of County Waterford?

LORD BRABOURNE,

in reply, said, that he was glad to have that opportunity of stating that he had raised the question with regard to the appointment of Sir Thomas Esmonde entirely in consequence of communications which, he had received from Ireland, and not because he had any private or personal knowledge of Sir Thomas Esmonde or his opinions. As the appointment, however, had been cancelled, and as, therefore, no public interest could be served by further pursuing the matter, it was not his intention to proceed with his Motion.
