HL Deb 15 May 1885 vol 298 cc568-9
THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE

asked the Lord President of the Council, Whether he could inform their Lordships of the course Her Majesty's Government intended to pursue with regard to either the renewal or a modification of the Crimes Act in Ireland; whether there was any truth in the rumour that had been promulgated that it was contemplated this Session to introduce a Local Government Board Bill for Ireland; and, whether the Government had any intention to bring in a Bill to facilitate the purchase of land, which, he thought, they were more or less pledged to do?

LORD CAELINGFORD (LORD PRESIDENT of the COUNCIL)

I have to say that the Government do intend to bring in a Bill embodying a considerable number, but not the whole, of the provisions contained in the present Crimes Act, and that Bill they intend to introduce on an early day after the Whitsuntide holidays. With respect to the other measures mentioned by my noble Friend, I am not prepared to make any statement in regard to them at this moment.
