Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE SECRETARY TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Earl BROWNLOW)

, in moving that the Bill be now read a second time, said, it was the same measure as had been presented earlier in the year by the noble and learned Earl who then occupied the Woolsack. Its object was simply to enable Boards of Guardians to detain lunatics in the workhouses in certain cases.

Moved, "That the Bill be now read 2a"—(The Earl Brownlow.)

Motion agreed to; Bill read 2a accordingly, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House on Monday next.

House adjourned at half past Six o'clock, to Monday next, a quarter past Four o'clock.
