§ EARL GRANVILLEMy Lords, seeing my noble Friend (the Earl of Carnarvon) in his place, I have a request to make to him on behalf of my noble Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty (the Earl of Northbrook). I am sure he will regret, and will not be surprised, that after the hard work and the long journey of my noble Friend, he has been attacked by a malady not altogether unknown to some of your Lordships; and although it is not of a very serious description, it makes it exceedingly difficult for him to come down to the House. If it is equally convenient to my noble Friend, I would ask him to postpone his Motion as to the Colonial Possessions and Garrisons Abroad until to-morrow.
THE EARL OF CARNARVONI am very sorry to hear the cause of the absence of my noble Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty. Of course, I will postpone my Motion. Perhaps the noble Earl opposite (Earl Granville) will allow me to fix a day for its discussion after consultation with some of my Friends—probably, some day next week.
§ VISCOUNT SIDMOUTHIn consequence of the statement as to the indisposition of the First Lord of the Admiralty (the Earl of Northbrook), I beg to give Notice that I will postpone my Question as to an inquiry into the strength and condition of the Naval Forces.
§ Subsequently,
§ EARL GRANVILLEMy Lords, in consequence of the postponement of the Notices for to-morrow, there will be no Business done; and, therefore, I propose, in the manner I did the other day, to move the adjournment of the House from this evening until Monday.
§ Motion agreed to.
