HL Deb 04 July 1881 vol 262 c1915

SECOND READING.

THE EARL OF REDESDALE (CHAIRMAN of COMMITTEES)

moved— That the Order of the 1st day of April last, which limits the time for the Second Reading of any Private Bill brought from the House of Commons be dispensed with in respect of the said Bill, and that the Bill be read 2a.

THE MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNE

said, he had some doubt as to whether the Bill deserved such indulgence at their Lordships' hands. It sanctioned what seemed to him a very objectionable route for a new line, which the London and South-Western Railway Company proposed to construct, and he should reserve to himself the right of opposing it on a future occasion.

Motion agreed to; Bill read 2a accordingly, and committed: The Committee to be proposed by the Committee of Selection.
