HL Deb 16 June 1879 vol 246 c1897

House in Committee (according to Order).

EARL SPENCER

said, that this was a Bill for making a close time in Ireland for hares, and he would like to have some explanation from those who had charge of the Bill as to the necessity for such a measure, which would make the law in Ireland different to that in England, and might lead to considerable difficulties.

THE EARL OF KIMBERLEY

also considered that there should be a statement made as to the expected operations of the Bill.

THE EARL OF COURTOWN

said, that the Bill would not be objected to by the farmers of Ireland, as hares were nearly extinct in that country.

LORD ORANMORE AND BROWNE

said, that he had a good supply of hares on his property, and thought it would be injurious to prevent hares being killed where there were growing crops.

Amendments made: the Report there of to be received on Thursday next.
