HL Deb 08 July 1878 vol 241 cc955-6
THE EARL OF BELMORE

asked the Lord President of the Council, When it is probable that the Report of the Dublin University Commissioners, which was presented to the House on the 13th May last, will be distributed to Members of the House? Eight weeks had elapsed since the Report had been laid on the Table. It dealt mainly with two subjects, one relating to the Divinity School, the other to the question of promotion amongst the Fellows. The Home Secretary had given permission for the Report to be communicated, as soon as it was laid before Parliament, to the bodies especially interested—namely, the Board of Trinity College and the Divinity School of the Church of Ireland. The part particularly relating to the latter had been communicated in regular course to the Press; but as regarded the other part, an inaccurate version had gone abroad. He did not expect, at this late period of the Session, that any discussion would take place; but the matter was of considerable importance, and he thought the Report should be, as soon as possible, in the hands of the public.

THE DUKE OF RICHMOND AND GORDON

said, he had made inquiries in Ireland in order that he might answer the Question, and the information he had received was that 1,000 Copies of the Dublin University Commissioners Report had been despatched from Dublin last night, and that the rest would follow to-night. He hoped that in the course of two or three days, at the most, it would be in the hands of their Lordships.
