Clause 18 (Objects of Statutes for Colleges in relation to the University).

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBUEY

said, that in pursuance of his promise to the noble Earl opposite (the Earl of Morley) on Friday night, that he would consider whether any addition was required to the 16th clause to enable the Commissioners to make provision for the Bodleian Library out of the funds of any Colleges—he had prepared a new sub-section to be inserted in Clause 18, as follows— ("4.) For empowering the College by statute made and passed at a general meeting of the governing body of the College specially summoned for this purpose, by the votes of not less than two-thirds of the number of persons present and voting, to transfer the library of the College, or any portion thereof, to any University library.

Amendment agreed to; and inserted in the Clause.
