HL Deb 17 June 1875 vol 225 c84

House in Committee (according to Order.)

Clauses 1 and 2 agreed to.

Clause 3 (Abusing a girl under 12 years of age.)

LORD STANLEY OF ALDERLEY

moved to leave out ("twelve") and insert ("thirteen.")

LORD HAMPTON

objected to the alteration.

LORD COLERIDGE

said, that he saw no reason for the alteration. Surely an offence committed on a girl under 13 was as bad as if it was committed on a girl under 12.

Amendment negatived; Clause agreed to.

Clause 4 (Abusing a girl above 12 years of age and under 13 years of age.)

LORD STANLEY OF ALDERLEY

moved to omit the clause.

After a conversation which was mostly inaudible,

Amendment agreed to; Clause struck out.

Further Amendments made: the Report thereof to be received To-morrow; and Bill to be printed, as amended. (No. 158.)
