HL Deb 07 June 1872 vol 211 cc1326-7
THE DUKE OF RICHMOND

My Lords, I put on the Paper for this evening a Notice that I would call attention to the case of the officers of the Guards who were gazetted to the rank of ensign and lieutenant in the month of October, 1871, and that I would move an Address praying Her Majesty that she will be graciously pleased not to deprive them of that rank, or of the position they hold in the Army. I have now to state that within the last 48 hours I have had the honour of an interview with His Royal Highness the Commander-in-Chief, and the result of that interview is that it will be wholly unnecessary for me to trouble your Lordships with the matter. I shall, therefore, with your Lordships' permission, withdraw my Notice.
