HL Deb 20 July 1871 vol 208 cc11-2
THE EARL OF POWIS

, understanding that representations had been made to the Government in behalf of the foundation of a College or University in the Principality, or for a Parliamentary grant in aid, wished to know whether it was their intention to take any action in the matter?

THE MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNE

said, an application had been made in the course of the Session to the Government for a Parliamentary grant with the view of establishing a College or University in Wales; but they had no intention of proposing a grant for that purpose. The noble Earl would not, he was sure, expect that he should on that occasion enter into the merits of the question.
