HL Deb 08 July 1869 vol 197 c1417
THE EARL OF LICHFIELD

, in moving that the Bill be now read a second time, said, that it proposed an innovation in giving to women the right to exercise the municipal franchise; but when they paid the rates they had the same interest in an economical administration of municipal funds, and in the efficient management of municipal affairs, as any other inhabitants. The Bill would afford considerable convenience to persons claiming the right to vote, because they would go before one court instead of two, and it would be attended with a saving to the rate-payers.

Motion agreed to; Bill read 2a accordingly, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House on Tuesday next.
