HL Deb 08 June 1866 vol 184 cc22-3

Select Committee nominated, to consider Alterations in Standing Order No. 184. proposing that a Subscription Contract shall be entered into in certain Cases by the Promoters of Second Class Bills: The Lords following were named of the Committee:

Ld. President E. Stradbroke
D. Cleveland V. Eversley
M. Lansdowne L. Redesdale
M. Salisbury L. Somerhill
M. Bath L. Portman
E. Lucan L. Stanley of Alderley
E. Belmore L. Overstone
E. Grey
LORD STANLEY OF ALDERLEY

said, that the noble Lord the Chairman of Committees, who had reserved to himself the power of nominating the Committee, had certainly not neglected the opportunity of selecting the names of Peers favourable to his own view. He felt it necessary to give notice for Monday of the addition of four other names.

LORD REDESDALE

denied that the Committee was a packed one.

EARL GRANVILLE

thought both sides of the House should have been equally represented.

LORD REDESDALE

said, that nine of the Members had been taken from the Ministerial side of the House and only six from the other.

LORD STANLEY OF ALDERLEY

would make this compromise with the noble Lord: he would be satisfied with the addition of three names: Lord Taunton, Lord Halifax, and Lord Bessborough.

House adjourned at Eight o'clock, to Monday next, Eleven o'clock.
