HL Deb 29 June 1865 vol 180 c921

Amendments reported (according to Order).

EARL GRANVILLE

stated, that the Government had considered some objections which had been raised on a former occasion by the noble and learned Lord (Lord Chelmsford), and had proposed certain verbal Amendments to meet those objections. With respect to an objection taken by a noble Earl (the Earl of Carnarvon) to the combination of low diet and solitary confinement in cases of short sentences, the Home Office had considered the point, but saw no reason to make any alteration in the clause.

Further Amendments made; and Bill to be read 3a To-morrow.
