THE MARQUESS OF WESTMEATH

asked the Lord President of the Council, If his Lordship is aware that Mr. J. D. Morell, late one of Her Majesty's Inspectors of Roman Catholic schools, who was dismissed from that Office on the 4th day of March, 1864, has been appointed as Inspector of Roman Catholic schools by the Royal Commissioners of the Patriotic Fund with the sanction of the Committee of the Council of Education?

EARL GRANVILLE

said, that he had made inquiries on the subject, and it appeared that Mr. Morell was appointed by the Commissioners of the Royal Patriotic Fund previous to his dismissal from his office of Inspector of Roman Catholic Schools.

THE MARQUESS OF WESTMEATH

wished to know whether the noble Earl thought that the appointment should be sanctioned by the Government?

said, that the Government had no voice in the matter.
