HL Deb 25 February 1859 vol 152 c855
THE BISHOP OF OXFORD

said, that the noble Earl at the head of the Foreign Office would perhaps give their Lordships an authoritative statement, confirmatory of the report they had just heard as to the probable preservation of the peace of Europe.

THE EARL OF MALMESBURY

My Lords, I did not expect this question from my right rev. Friend; but, without deferring the answer to a future time, I have no objection to state that Her Majesty's Government have received communications which give them reason to believe that, within no distant period of time, the armies of France and Austria will be withdrawn from the Papal States, and at the request of the Pontifical Government.

House adjourned at a quarter to Seven o'clock, to Monday next, Eleven o'clock.
