HL Deb 21 May 1858 vol 150 c1022
THE EARL OF MINTO

said, that some time since the House had been informed that a demand had been made on the Government of Naples for compensation to the English engineers who had recently been incarcerated at Naples. He wished to know whether any reply had been received to that demand; and, if so, what was its nature?

THE EARL OF MALMESBURY

said, he had received from the Government of Naples an answer, which he had certainly understood to be a refusal to grant the compensation. But that very morning a despatch had reached him from Naples, in which he was told that the answer was an argumentative reply, and not a categorical rejection.

House adjourned at Six o'clock, to Monday the 31st instant, at Half-past Four o'clock.
