The Lord Chancellor

acquainted the House, that he had received from Major-General Sir Charles Napier, G.C.B. the following letter, in return to the Thanks of this House, communicated to him by the Lord Chancellor, in obedience to an Order of this House of the 12th of February, 1844:—

"Kurrachee, 20th May, 1844.

"My Lord,—I have the Honour to acknowledge the Receipt of a Resolution of the House of Lords, dated the 12th February, 1844. The Contents of this Resolution I have communicated to the Troops therein mentioned; and I have the Honour to request that your Lordship will convey to the House of Lords, on behalf of the Officers, Non-commissioned Officers, and Private Soldiers, European and Native, as well as on my own Part, our grateful Thanks for the high Honour which their Lordships have deemed us to be worthy of receiving for our Conduct in the Scinde War.

"I have the honour to be,

My Lords,

Your Lordship's most obedient humble Servt.

"CHARLES J. NAPIER,

Major-General.

"To the Right Honourable

The Lord Chancellor, &c. &c. &c."

And the same being read, was ordered to lie on the Table, and to be entered on the Journals.

On the Motion of the Duke of Wellington Resolutions were agreed to, re-appointing Lord Shaftesbury as Chairman of Committees, and nominating the other Sessional Officers of the House.

The Earl of Shaftesbury

expressed his thanks for his re-appointment to an office which he had already filled for thirty-five years.
