In answer to the Earl of Mountcashel,

The Duke of Wellington

stated, that it was the intention of Government to carry out the plans of Lord Sydenham in reference to public works in Canada, and that they were in communication with the present Governor-general of Canada, for the purpose of ascertaining what would be the best mode of carrying the engagements which had been made into execution, for the benefit of the province of Canada.
