HL Deb 13 February 1832 vol 10 cc248-9
The Marquis of Lansdown

would beg permission, without having given any previous notice, to move, that there be laid upon the Table certain papers which he considered very material for their Lordships' information. The papers to which he alluded were certain Reports which had been made to the Privy Council relating to the subject of Spasmodic Cholera. He had no hesitation to state, that he moved for the production of these documents in order to lay the foundation of a measure which it was the intention of his Majesty's Government immediately to introduce. The object of this measure would be, to enable parishes to tax themselves, for the purpose of defraying the expense of the means which might be resorted to for the mitigation or prevention of this malignant disease. This they could not do at present. He was aware, that such an Act could not originate in that House, but it would be immediately brought into the other House of Parliament, and it was probable their Lordships would be speedily called upon to give it their sanction.

Returns ordered.
