HC Deb 14 December 1945 vol 417 cc800-3
Captain Crookshank (Gainsborough)

On Business, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman the Lord Privy Seal whether he intends to move the Motion which appears on the Order Paper to suspend the Rule today, and, if so, on what grounds? It is very unusual to do so on a Friday, and we have had no notice of it.

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Arthur Greenwood)

After we have finished with the Bretton Woods Bill, it is proposed that we should take the Committee stage of the Local Government (Financial Provisions) Bill. The suspension of the Rule is a purely precautionary measure, to ensure that we get the Committee stage of the Bill.

Captain Crookshank

We must take exception to this. We have had no notice of any extension. It is most un-

usual to move a Motion of this kind on Friday.

Motion made, and Question put, That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."[Mr. Greenwood.]
