HC Deb 24 February 1936 vol 309 cc44-7
Mr. ATTLEE

May I ask the Prime Minister how far he proposes to go tonight in the event of the Motion for the Suspension of the Eleven o'Clock Rule being carried?

The PRIME MINISTER

The arrangement which I indicated to the House on Thursday will, we hope, he adhered to. The Motion for the Adjournment is to be moved to allow a. Debate on Foreign Affairs, and we hope the Debate will be concluded by half-past nine, and the Motion withdrawn, so that we can then consider the Committee stage of the Supplementary Estimates for the three Services. We are moving the suspension of the Eleven o'clock Rule, as we must obtain those Estimates to-night. The Committee of Ways and Means which we are taking is a formal item of business on which the Consolidated Fund Bill will be founded. We should like, if possible, and we hope, to get the Motion for the Debts Clearing Offices. I do not believe there is anything controversial in that.

Mr. ATTLEE

I think the last item ought not to be taken if the House should be sitting very late.

The PRIME MINISTER

Oh, no; certainly not.

Motion made, and Question put, That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]

The House divided: Ayes, 279; Noes, 98.
