§ Mr. STANLEY BALDWINMay I ask the Prime Minister whether he can tell us what the business will be during the week that the House reassembles after the Recess?
§ The PRIME MINISTERYes. Tuesday, 17th June: Finance Bill, Committee.
§ Wednesday, 18th June: Supply (13th Allotted Day). The Vote will be announced before the Whitsun Adjournment.
§ Thursday, 19th June: Finance Bill, Committee.
§ Friday, 20th June: The business will be announced later.
§ As usual, other business may be taken on any day if time permits.
§ Mr. BALDWINI am much obliged. Does the Prime Minister think that during that week he would be able to give the House any indication of the Government business which he expects to include, and at what date he hopes to wind up the Session?
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs a matter of fact, I have been working at that for a little time, very badly interrupted by pressing affairs. I would like to make the announcement as quickly as I possibly can. I would not commit myself to stating that it will be made in the first week, but the House may assume that, as soon as it is possible for me to make this statement, I will do so.
§ Mr. BALDWINHow far does the Prime Minister desire to go to-night?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI would like to get a bit of way in view of the answer which I have given about the business for the Session. We shall propose to take the Lords Amendments to the Coal Mines Bill, and the Lords Amendments to the Railways (Valuation for Rating) Bill. I would call the latter purely drafting Amendments, none of which are of any substance; that is my information. The Motion in the name of the Secretary of State for War is rather pressing, and, in any event, it belongs to the order of exempted business. There is another Order—the Air Transport (Subsidy Agreements) Bill; there is a great risk that unless that is dealt with before we rise for Whitsuntide, a contract which is in process of execution may be seriously jeopardised. I do not propose to go further than that.
§
Motion made, and Question put,
That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]
