Motion made, and Question put, That this House, having taken into consideration the proposals with respect to tariff preference for Empire goods which His Majesty's late Government intimated at the Imperial Economic Conference in 1923 that they intended to submit to Parliament, is of opinion that for a period of 10 years the preference on sugar produced within the Empire and imported into Great Britain should be maintained at the rate of one halfpenny per pound, so long as the duty on foreign sugar does not fall below that level."—[Mr. Baldwin.]

The House divided: Ayes, 263; Noes, 283.

Resolution agreed to.

Mr. BALDWIN

I undertook not to put the House to the trouble of unnecessary Divisions, in the event of the House being against us on the early Divisions. I do not, therefore, propose to move the remaining Resolutions standing on the Paper in my name.

Captain BENN

I heard the undertaking given—

Mr. SPEAKER

No question can arise.

Captain BENN

I am speaking on the same question as the right hon. Gentleman.

Mr. SPEAKER

The right hon. Gentleman's name is attached to the Motions.

Captain BENN

Do I understand that all these Resolutions which have been put on the Paper are shams?
