HC Deb 17 April 1923 vol 162 cc1870-1
54. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will extend the reference to the Committee set up to consider the working of the recommendations of the Lytton Report to admit of it making further recommendations itself as a result of its inquiry; and whether he can now say who is to be chairman of the Committee, and who are to be members?

Major BOYD-CARPENTER

With regard to the first part of the question, it seems unnecessary to extend the terms of reference of the Committee, but it will be open to the Committee, if they find that difficulties have arisen in the application of the recommendations of the Lytton Committee, to suggest what amendments or modifications are desirable in order to give full effect to the policy of preferential treatment of ex-service men which the Lytton Committee recommended. As regards the second part of the question, I am doing my utmost to expedite the formation of the Committee, and I hope that it will be possible to publish the names of the chairman and members within the next few days.
