HC Deb 25 May 1922 vol 154 c1406
94. Sir PHILIP MAGNUS

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of secondary schools in England and Wales which, not having prior to the year 1918 received from the Board any maintenance grants or other grants-in-aid, have since applied for recognition as State-aided schools and of these how many have been so recognised; and whether he can state the total amount of grants paid by the Board since 1918 on account of such schools?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Fisher)

Ninety-five schools not previously in receipt of aid from the Board applied under the Secondary School Regulations for grants as from 1st August, 1918, or later dates. Of these, 81 were accepted and 14 refused. Of the 81, 10 have been transferred to local education authorities. The grants paid in respect of the 81 schools uncles the Secondary School Regulations up to the 31st March last amounted to £175,000. In addition, deficiency grant has been paid in respect of certain expenditure incurred by local authorities on the schools.
