HC Deb 25 May 1922 vol 154 cc1392-3
41. Rear-Admiral ADAIR

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the grave danger to loyal soldiers who return to their homes in Ireland, he will postpone the disbanding of the Irish regiments until such time as law and order has been re-established in Ireland?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Lieut. - Colonel Sir R. Sanders)

I have been asked to answer this question. I regret that I am unable to postpone the disbandment of these regiments.

Rear-Admiral ADAIR

May I ask the Leader of the House what provision will be made for those Irishmen disbanded from Irish regiments who are unable to return to their homes?

Mr. SPEAKER

That does not arise out of the question on the Paper.

Lieut.-Colonel ASHLEY

Will the right hon. Gentleman extend the same con- sideration to these men as has been extended to the disbanded men of the Royal Irish Constabulary, namely, give them 15s. a week separation allowance?
