§ 28. Sir ROBERT CLOUGHasked the Minister of Labour whether he can state the national loss in time and wages, respectively, through industrial unrest in the last two months?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe aggregate time lost in March and April, in trade disputes involving stoppages of work, is estimated to have amounted to approximately nine million working days. This figure includes time lost by workpeople thrown out of work, owing to the disputes, at the establishments where the disputes occurred, as well as by those workpeople actually on strike or locked out; but it does not include time lost by workpeople rendered idle at other establishments, as to which figures are not available. The information in my possession is not sufficient to enable me to give a reliable estimate of the aggregate loss in wages resulting from the disputes.
