asked the Minister of Labour the total amount of the grant made to the Unemployment Grants Committee presided over by Lord St. Davids; how much of this sum has been allocated; and how much still remains to be allocated?

The Committee have made grants of £2,630,000 for schemes in which they pay 60 per cent, of the wages bill, and this is the limit placed at their disposal for this purpose, and they have undertaken to pay grants of 65 per cent, of loan charges for non-revenue-producing schemes and 50 per cent, of interest for revenue-producing schemes, on works of a capital cost of £17,273,300, out of a limit of £18,000,000 at present fixed.
