HC Deb 08 May 1922 vol 153 c1780
42. Sir R. NEWMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether it is proposed to refer any of the recommendations of the Geddes Committee respecting education to any Departmental or other Committee; and, if so, in view of the fact that local education authorities have to bear a large proportion of the expenditure, whether representatives of such authorities will be appointed to serve on such Committee or Committees?

Mr. YOUNG

As a result of the recommendations of the Committee on National Expenditure, it is proposed to set up two Committees to inquire into the percentage grants system, which, of course, closely concerns educational expenditure, and into the question of teachers' superannuation, respectively. As regards the latter part of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given on the 14th March last to the hon. Member for West Houghton. The composition of both these Committees is still under consideration.
