HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 c1533
Sir MAURICE DOCKRELL

(by Private Notice) asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether any notice was given to beneficiaries of Trust Funds under control of the Supreme Court of Judicature in Ireland of an intention by the Imperial Government to disclaim responsibility for these funds; and was the consent of the beneficiaries to the appointment of new trustees obtained?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

The transfer of the administration of law and justice including the responsibility for Supreme Court matters, from the Imperial Government to the Provisional Government was effected under the Irish Free State (Agreement) Act, of which the general public had ample notice. This transfer did not involve the appointment of any new trustees, and the second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Sir M. DOCKRELL

Did not the transfer involve the responsibility being transferred from the Imperial Government to another body, and will it be possible for beneficiaries who are resident in England and who have trust funds in Ireland to have them transferred to the Public Trustee or the Court of Chancery in England?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

That is a most important question, and I shall very seriously consider it.
