HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 cc1527-8
53. Viscount CURZON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether it is with the consent of Mr. Michael Collins and the Provisional Government that an armed guard of British troops has been placed in Dublin Castle?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

There is no armed guard of British troops in Dublin Castle. The military barrack adjoining the Castle is at present occupied by the Royal Irish Constabulary, and the Castle guard is furnished by that force. A military guard was furnished for a few days in the beginning of April, pending arrangements being made for supplying an adequate guard from the Royal Irish Constabulary.
