HC Deb 02 May 1922 vol 153 c1162
41. Mr. WALTER HALLS

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he is aware that ex-Private T. D. Mason. 80, George Street, Heywood, late of the Royal Army Service Corps, who is suffering from permanent injuries received in the War, a pension of 9s. 6d. per week for 156 weeks has been awarded, with a terminal gratuity of £40, without the man being consulted as to taking a terminal gratuity; and, in view of the fact that the man's trouble is likely to grow worse with age, will he set aside the decision of the regional director and allow the man to be awarded from time to time what is his due, according to reports from medical boards who dealt with him?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of PENSIONS (Major Tryon)

The award is the appropriate compensation for disabilities assessed, as in this case, by a medical board at less than 20 per cent., and was made subject to the usual rights of appeal by the man through his local committee.
