Mr. YOUNGI am sending my hon. Friend a table showing the effective rates of tax (i.e., Income Tax, including in the higher ranges of income, Super-tax) payable in the circumstances there stated upon each pound of the taxpayer's actual income. For statistics of the estimated numbers of taxpayers, classified according to the amount of total income, I beg to refer my hon. Friend to Table 64 for the year 1918–19, on page 70 of the 63rd Report of the Commissioners of 1169 Inland Revenue (Command Paper 1083). No later figures are yet available. The average effective rate of Income Tax (excluding Super-tax) levied on each pound of actual income was 2s. 11d. in the year 1918–19, 2s. 8d. in the year 1919–20, and is estimated at 2s. 10d. in the year 1920–21.
