55. Mr. L. MALONEasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that in some areas where unemployment is very acute, unemployed persons are appearing in the small debt court almost daily owing to lack of funds to pay their rent; and whether he will consider the possibility of introducing a moratorium of debts in respect of rent incurred by unemployed workers?
§ The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Alfred Mond)I have no information as to the first part of the question. Subsection (2) of Section 5 of the Increase of Kent Act, 1920, already gives the courts express power to stay or suspend proceedings on such conditions (if any) as they think fit.
