§ 54. Mr. ATKEYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that statements in the Press have been made that the British Government are entering into negotiations for the cancelment of War debts; and will he give an undertaking that the sanction of Parliament shall be given before the British Government is committed to any definite undertaking to cancel the debts of our Allies?
§ Sir R. HORNEI have seen some statements in the Press on the lines indicated in the first part of the question. With regard to the second part of the question I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on 16th December last by the Prime Minister to a question by the hon. and gallant Member for New-castle-under-Lyme, in which an assurance was given that should this question become one of practical importance, a full opportunity would be given for Parliamentary discussion of any such proposals.
