45. Mr. T. THOMSONasked the Prime Minister whether, in deciding to ask teachers to contribute towards their superannuation, the Government considered applying the same principle to the Civil Service; and why they propose to treat differently the various classes of public servants?
§ Sir R. HORNEThe answer is in the negative. The conditions of service of civil servants and teachers are widely different.
Mr. THOMSONIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that this differentiation is regarded by the teachers as a breach of the Burnham award, and will he have regard to that when framing legislation to give effect to these proposals?
§ Sir R. HORNEI am not aware at all of that point of view.
