§ 49. Mr. ORMSBY-GOREasked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the delay in ratifying or amending the Treaty of Sevres, he will urge the Allied and Associated Powers to bring into force such parts of the Treaty as are not controversial, such as the appointment of the chairman of a special commission to deal with the Christian holy places in Palestine by the Council of the League of Nations; and whether he will now hasten the establishment of this Commission?
Mr. CHAMBERLAIN (Leader of the House)The question of the appointment of a Chairman for the Holy Places Commission was before the Council of the League of Nations at the January Session. It is included again in the agenda for the coming Session. In the circumstances, I 1128 do not feel it would be opportune for me to make any statement on the subject at the present stage.
